I Asked for Eyes to See

that time I started seeing heart-shaped leaves everywhere

August 23, 2012 was my first love leaf glimpse. I’d been praying for eyes to see. For a lifetime, really, but according to my journals these specific prayers started to really ramp up around this time. And just like that, heart-shaped leaves started showing up. Everywhere.

Nearly ten years later, and it’s just that thing I do. A decade of being stopped in my tracks by these things.

*quick sidebar: why does a decade sound so much longer than ten years to me? it’s literally the same amount of time, but one term makes it sound like so. much. longer.

just me? all right, moving on…

I know there are probably some folks that have been following this seeing-heart-shaped-leaves-everywhere story that have visions of me walking around, hunched over, searching the ground frantically for leaves in the shape of hearts.

That’s not how it works at all.

These leaves just appear to me now. It’s what I see.
